Our Philosophy of Teaching and Learning
Our teaching methodology is based on principles fundamental
to the Communicative Approach to teaching and learning.
People learn a new language by actually using that language.
It is important to learn rules and structures, but more
importantly, individuals have to be able “to do” in the new
language; one has to do reading, listening, writing and speaking
to be able to use a new language to communicate and think.
To that end, all our classes are both dynamic and engaging:
students learn English by talking and writing about their lives
and their ideas, and by reading and listening to authentic
materials. And to supplement classroom teaching, we offer a wide
range of experiential learning activities that make every day an
adventure.
When we welcome new students to our Program, we begin by
assessing their skills and their needs, and we remain accessible
throughout the course of study to ensure that each student has
the tools and guidance necessary for success.
We believe that students should be accountable for learning
in terms of attendance, attention, and homework. As adults, our
students will be most motivated when they have some control over
and choice in what and how they learn, especially in terms of
task, task style, content of class materials, and focus of the
class. Our courses should meet or change student expectations.
Here are some of the main reasons our students love our
school:
- The Teachers and Staff
- Every teacher has a university education.
- Every teacher is certified by our college.
- The staff is friendly and helpful
- Together, the UBridge Team takes care of every student!
